Chitwan National Park

Chitwan meaning “heart of the jungle” has another jewel to add to the treasure trove of Nepal, Chitwan National Park. Located in an area of 932 sq. km, surrounded by Rapti and Narayani River to the north, Parsa Wildlife Reserve in the east and Madi settlements and India border in the south, this world heritage listed reserve has a sizable variety and population of Wildlife. Established in 1973, Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal and famous for best wildlife viewing in Asia. Comprising a vast area of dense tropical and sub-tropical forests, grasslands and marshes, Chitwan National Park harbors a wide range of wildlife species. Chitwan National park consist a total of 68 species of mammals, 56 species of herpeto fauna and 126 species of fish, 150 species of butterflies and 47 species of reptiles. Chitwan National Park is also renowned for the protection of the rare species like One Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger and Gharial Crocodile. Chitwan National park is also a home to the world’s largest terrestrial mammal (wild elephant) and the world’s smallest terrestrial mammal (pygmy shrew). Chitwan National Park is a natural habitat of a total 544 species of bird Including 22 globally threatened species and critically endangered Bengal Florican, Slender-billed Vulture, White-rumped Vulture and Red-headed Vulture. While venturing around the park on an exciting elephant safari and encountering different wildlife, if you are extremely lucky one can catch a glimpse of leopards, wild elephants, sloth bears, striped hyena, Gangetic dolphin and wild bison. Though it is a once in a lifetime chance of spotting the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, Chitwan National Park attracts many keen visitors. On our visit to National park apart from elephant safari and National park visits we will also visit the Bees Hazaar Taal (Twenty thousand lakes), Elephant breeding center and Gharial hatchery which are quite fascinating. We will also go on a canoe ride along the Rapti River which is a fantastic opportunity for watching birds and 2 rare species of crocodiles along with the beautiful view of Sunset. On the evening we will be entertained by cultural dances performed by locals of Tharu ethnicity.
